Colburn: Allotment/ Garden Shed Security

Dear resident,

Following a recent break-in at an allotment on Watson Way, Colburn, North Yorkshire Police would like to remind plot holders and residents with garden sheds to take a few simple steps to help keep their belongings safe.

Allotments and sheds can unfortunately be targeted for tools, equipment and other valuable items, so please consider the following:

Ensure sheds are secured with good quality locks and consider additional security such as hinge bolts and shed alarms

Avoid leaving tools or equipment out in the open. Keep them stored securely and out of sight when not in use

Take high-value items home where possible

Consider marking tools with a postcode to make them less attractive to thieves

Report any suspicious activity to police as soon as possible
